Tell about Noah's Ark ?

Smith was unable to decipher the tablet that would change his life, because a lime-like deposit obscured the text. Only once this had been painstakingly removed – an agonising wait for the highly strung Smith – could all the words be read. A contemporary observer reported what happened next

1. The story of “Noah and the ark” spans Genesis 5 to Genesis 9. Though some of Noah’s life spans beyond Genesis 9, the story of the flood ends around Genesis 9:19. Verses 20-28 get a little weird.

The Care of the animals. Noah was instructed to include food for the animals (Gen. 6:21). How Noah and his small family could have cared for this large menagerie is unknown, not to mention the sanitation problem! What we must remember is that this event, i.e., the Flood, had supernatural elements. For instance, the animals came to the Ark against their natural instincts (Gen. 6:20).

Read it. You’ll see what I mean. Genesis 5 is a bunch of genealogies. Normally, I find genealogies extraordinarily BORING, but in this case that chapter is super interesting (more on that below).

God took the initiative in sparing Noah and his family. "But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners Christ died for us." Rom. 5:8

Genesis 6 describes the state of the world around Noah’s time, along with God’s calling on Noah’s life, while Genesis 7-8 is mainly about the details of the flood.

Smith’s dramatic reaction achieved mythological status, to the point that all subsequent Assyriologists keep the tactic in reserve just in case they too find something spectacular.

There was a divine and human side to the Ark as Christ is both human and divine.

Smith announced his discoveries at a meeting of the Society of Biblical Archaeology in London, on December 3, 1872. August dignitaries were present, including the Archbishop of Canterbury – since Smith’s findings had serious implications for church authority – and the classically-disposed prime minister, WE Gladstone.

2. Adam likely knew Noah’s father, Lamech. If you assume that “so and so BEGAT so and so” means “so and so WAS THE FATHER of so and so,” then Adam lived for 56 years after Lamech was born and died 126 years before Noah was born.

There was only one door to enter into the Ark as there is only one way to God and that is through Christ Jesus.

In 1872 everyone knew their Bible backwards, and the announcement that the iconic story of the Ark and the Flood existed on a barbaric-looking document of clay in the British Museum that pre-dated the Bible and had been dug up somewhere in the East was indigestible.

HOWEVER. . . the original Hebrew that is translated “begat” in this passage means both “begat,” and “begat an ancestor of.” This means that there could have been additional generations between the few lives shown in Genesis 5.

There was great security for the passengers of the Ark. Likewise, if we are in Christ we are secure.

A hundred and thirteen years after Smith’s breakthrough, a similar episode of British-Museum-curator-meets-amazing-cuneiform-flood-story befell me.

In other genealogies in the Old Testament, this is the case—that two genealogies are the same in two different areas of Scripture except one leaves out several generations.

People bring all sorts of unexpected objects to the British Museum to have them identified. In 1985 a cuneiform tablet was brought in by a member of the public already known to me, for he had been in with Babylonian objects before.

The local Flood theory received a boost when the famous archaeologist, Sir Leonard Wooley thought he found proof of the Biblical Flood when he found an eight foot thick layer of water-deposited strata under the city of Ur covering a still more ancient civilization. Despite proof to the contrary, many still believe this discovery.

I’ve talked to a few people (my dad included) who hold militantly to the idea that you can judge how old the earth is by counting up the years in the genealogies.

His name was Douglas Simmonds. Gruff, non-communicative and to me largely unfathomable, he had a conspicuously large head housing a large measure of intelligence.

But those other genealogies prove that if you believe in the inerrancy of Scripture, you just can’t be 100% certain that you can simply add up the years in the genealogies to arrive at an absolute count of how much time has gone by since God made the world. We. Just. Don’t. Know. And that’s perfectly fine.

The main objections are its supernaturalism and the fact that it contradicts the conclusions of modern uniformitarian geology.

3. Noah’s great grandfather, Enoch, is one of only two people in Scripture that never died.“Enoch walked with God after he fathered Methuselah 300 years and had other sons and daughters.
