What is CBI ?

CBI is a police force of central government which is administered in accordance with Delhi special police establishment Act.(note-Not created via this act,thus not a statutory body)

It can investigate any crime in India when asked by central government or directed by judiciary. (ANY CRIME= organized crimes,murders etc)

Appointed by executive and removed the same. Salaries and perks are dependent on executive. But it's function says it can investigate against them. Thus a conflict of interest.

Not INDEPENDENT

Recent instances of corruption within the organization.

Controlled by multiple bodies such as CVC,lokpal etc

It is a premier organization and was established using Delhi Police Establishment Act and was originally intended to investigate matters of corruptions in central government offices.

Now a days it investigates any matter on directions by central government based on recommendations of state government.

It is a Central Police Force, works under the Ministry of Personnel. Before independence, the British Govt created this special police force to investigate & punish corrupt central Govt officers.

Delhi Special Police Establishment Act of 1946 is the base act under which the department works. It receives it's work orders from the Central Govt.

The High Courts & Supreme Court can also order investigations. Delhi Special Police Establishment was later renamed as Central Bureau of Investigation, CBI.

It is led by a director, appointed for 2-year tenure and selected by the P.M, Leader of Opposition & Chief Justice of India. For investigation in State matter, it needs approval from States.
