What is The Signature Bridge ?

Signature Bridge is India's first asymmetrical cable-stayed bridg . It was constructed by Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC), at a cost of Rs.1,518.37 Cr .It is expected to reduce traffic in north and northeast Delhi.

The western and eastern ends of the bridge connect nearby areas like Nehru Vihar, Wazirabad, Aruna Nagar, Mukherjee Nagar on Ring Road to Bhajanpura on Mangal Pandey Marg.

154-metre-high glass box atop the pylon is under construction. It will offer a bird's eye view of the city to visitors. Four elevators will take 50 people total to the top of the bridge

The bridge was constructed by the Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation (DTTDC) at a cost of about Rs 1518.37 crore.

The new landmark will reduce the commuting time between northeast areas and the inner city from 45 minutes to just 10 minutes, combating pollution and saving fuel.

People will be able to enjoy a panoramic view of the city from the top of the bridge, as people do from the Eiffel Tower.

Visitors will be taken in four elevators with a total capacity of 50 people to a 154-metre high glass box on the top of the bridge to provide them a bird's-eye view of the city.

There are graphics on the bridge which represents modern and progressive India. It will be developed into a tourist spot in the second phase of its development.

The bridge was inaugurated amid a surcharged atmosphere with a scuffle breaking out between the Delhi BJP chief, Manoj Tiwari, and AAP supporters.

The bridge is a Cantilever spar cable-stayed bridge, a type of Cable-stayed bridge and in which cables were in a combination of radial and semi-harp arrangement, in which cables are spaced apart on the pylon, like the harp design, but connect to one point or a number of closely spaced points on the deck.[

Wazirabad Bridge or Signature Bridge Project is an initiative of Delhi Government, planned during the Commonwealth Games.

It was conceptualized to be a landmark tourist icon that would also speed up the movement of expanding vehicular traffic between North and East Delhi over the river Yamuna along with facilitating enhanced interstate traffic movement between Delhi and the states of Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.

However, owing to numerous project related hindrances, the bridge project got delayed behind its original completion schedule.

The project has now been targeted for its completion only by December 2014.

The design and construction of the bridge project has been entrusted to the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) as a deposit work of Delhi Government.

The project has been divided into two packages.

The first package comprises eastern and western approaches and main cable stayed bridge that will be connected to the approaches.

Works for the approaches which are now almost in its completion stage, was awarded to contractor Gammon in 2008 at a cost of Rs.350 crore.

The construction components of the eastern approach has 1.8 km long embankment to connect the main cable stayed bridge with the marginal bund road at the Khajuri Khas intersection in East Delhi.

It also involves a flyover and a ground level rotary at Khajuri Khas intersection and river training works involving guide Bunds and launching apron.

The Infrastructure Industry is continuously evolving; new roads, elevated corridors, expressways, railways, dedicated corridors, metros, mono-rails are being constructed all the time.

The Signature Bridge is a cantilever spar cable-stayed bridge which spans the Yamuna river at Wazirabad section, connecting Wazirabad to East Delhi.

It is India's first asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge.
