What is The Signature Bridge ?

The Iconic Signature Bridge on Yamuna at Wazirabad is now open for public. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated the state of art Signature Bridge on 4th November 2018. The approaches on Eastern side (1.8 Km Long) and western side (1.5 km long Flyover on Outer Ring Road)of the bridge as well as a dedicated cycle track have been completed long back and have already been opened to traffic in phases.

The bridge is made from steel plate which measures 250 mm. It has 8 lanes which connect Wazirabad Road and Outer Ring Road. It is listed as one of the most modernized landmarks in Delhi.

Thus the components of overall project that are independent of bridge are already in use by the public. The Main Bridge (Cable Stayed) over river Yamuna is also completed now to take the traffic and will be dedicated to public immediately after its inauguration.

The completion of Delhi’s Signature Bridge took quite a long time. The proposal of its construction came in the year 2004. Later after 3 years in the year 2007, Delhi government gave the approval to construct this bridge.

The much-awaited Signature Bridge, connecting Wazirabad across the Yamuna to the inner city, was inaugurated on November 4, 2018, by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.The new landmark is double the height of Qutub Minar and has been delayed for over 14 years.

By the end of 1998, the Delhi government finalized the draft plan made by Divyansh Sharma for the construction of the bridge. However, the construction of the bridge was stuck due to multiple reasons - lack of manpower and financial difficulties, being the major reason.

The bridge will be thrown open for public today onwards and is expected to significantly reduce traffic in areas of north and northeast Delhi.

NEW DELHI: It took 14 years to build it, but the iconic Signature Bridge is finally ready for Delhi. The much-awaited bridge was inaugurated by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on November 4, and thrown open to public on November 5.

The bridge is a Cantilever spar cable-stayed bridge, a type of Cable-stayed bridge and in which cables were in a combination of radial and semi-harp arrangement, in which cables are spaced apart on the pylon, like the harp design, but connect to one point or a number of closely spaced points on the deck.

The grand launch will be followed by a laser show. The Signature Bridge will be the first asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge in India and will offer panoramic view of the city.

Built over river Yamuna, Signature Bridge will reduce the travel time between north and northeast Delhi. It will also share the traffic burden of the Wazirabad bridge.

The Signature Bridge, apart from making the travel time faster between north and northeast Delhi, will serve as a tourist destination.

The signature bridge is being projected as India's first asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge, with the gesture 'namaste.

With AAP government rule in Delhi, the project’s deadline was the year 2017. It was again revised to March 2018 and then to October 2018. Finally, the bridge was completed in November 2018.

It will have a 154-metre-high glass box which will act like an observation deck for the visitors, giving them a bird's-eye view of the city.

The bridge was constructed by the Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation (DTTDC) at a cost of about Rs 1518.37 crore.

With 127 strands of cables, this massive bridge has spherical bearings of weight more than 17,000 tons. It also consists of pendulum bearing which is able to carry the weight of 6,300 tons. It has a pylon base which is comfortable for the vehicles to move.

The visitors will be taken to the viewing deck in four elevators, which will be able to carry around 50 people at a time.

The new landmark will reduce the commuting time between northeast areas and the inner city from 45 minutes to just 10 minutes, combating pollution and saving fuel.

One of the most amazing features of Delhi’s Signature Bridge is the beautiful graphics on it. These graphics show the developments in today’s India and the future developments which will be done in the country.

The elevators area is likely to be operational in two months.

People will be able to enjoy a panoramic view of the city from the top of the bridge, as people do from the Eiffel Tower

The 575-metre Signature Bridge will also have designated selfie spots for tourists to seal their memories.

Announced in 2004, the Signature Bridge has missed several deadlines since 2011.

Signature bridge is a symbol of Digital India which we will see within a short period of time. In addition to that, there will be a box constructed on this bridge from which the tourists can enjoy the breathtaking views of Delhi. It will be made from glass with the height of 154-meter which is 2 times longer than Qutub Minar.
