The time frame for the evolution of the genus Homo out of the last common ancestor is roughly 10 to 2 million years ago, that of H. sapiens out of Homo erectus roughly 1.8 to 0.2 million years ago.

Entering into History
Historians agree that “Prehistory” ended when written language was invented.

But because written language was invented at different times all around the world, prehistory is considered to have ended at different times for different countries

I think what is more relevant is the concept of an early modern human baby being able to fit in and be accepted by our modern society.

Scientific study of human evolution is mostly concerned with the development of the genus Homo, but usually involves studying other hominids and hominines as well, such as Australopithecus.

For example: writting appears in Egypt around 3200 BCE. But in New Guinea, written language didn’t arrive until the first visits of European explorers, in about 1600 AD. Meaning New Guinea’s prehistory didn’t until about 5000 years after prehistory ended in Egypt.

"Modern humans" are defined as the Homo sapiens species, of which the only living subspecies is known as Homo sapiens sapiens.

We have indications of possible changes in early modern humans at varying points, notably some changes around 50ky bp, and also there appear to be some changes around 10ky bp. The later change is significant, since this is the time at which we develop agriculture, settle down, and become something other than hunter-gatherers.

By The Ages
For a while, it was common for historians to separate ancient and pre-ancient history into a distinct three-age system: The Stone Age, the Bronze Age, and the Iron Age. They were based on when new tool technology developed.

One of the things that can be looked at is the timing of when we became ‘behaviorlly modern’. This would imply changes to the brain development, and essentially a more complex adult brain.

But even though many of us still know these terms, serious anthropologists no longer use them.

For example: The “stone age”, as we once called it, is now more commonly split into the Paleolithic era, or Old Stone Age (in which early Homo sapiens emerged around 200,000 years ago), the Mesolithic, or Middle Stone Age, and Neolithic, or New Stone Age.

Homo neanderthalensis, which became extinct 30,000 years ago, has sometimes been classified as a subspecies, "Homo sapiens neanderthalensis". Genetic studies now suggest that the functional DNA of modern humans and Neanderthals diverged 500,000 years ago.

Another issue, is when we look at European early modern humans they have a more robust and powerful body, and stronger.

It’s a more confusing system, but it’s also much more detailed and accurate. The names aren’t nearly as catchy, though.

Similarly, the discovered specimens of the Homo rhodesiensis species have been classified by some as a subspecies, but this classification is not widely accepted.

With higher population densities, better tools and fewer demands for brute strength, people all over the world became less robust, resulting in the comparatively more gracile population of today.

Free Love
With agriculture came ideas of property and inheritance. Before this, however, males did not think much about paternity—and neither did females. In order to improve their chances of reproduction, females often kept multiple sexual partners, and the concept of sexual monogamy was not necessarily a thing.

Until recently it was thought that anatomically modern humans first appeared in the fossil record in Africa about 195,000 years ago. Studies of molecular biology suggested that the approximate time of divergence from the common ancestor of all modern human populations was 200,000 years ago

Thus, anatomically modern humans can roughly be divided into two groups, the early (robust) and post-glacial (gracile) populations. The process leading to the development of smaller and more fine-boned humans seems to have begun at least 50,000 – 30,000 years ago”

It wasn’t until people began owning things to be passed down to their children that all of a sudden “whose kid is whose” became a big deal.

The broad study of African genetic diversity found the ǂKhomani San people had the greatest genetic diversity among the 113 distinct populations sampled, making them one of 14 "ancestral population clusters". The research also placed the origin of modern human migration in south-western Africa, near the coastal border of Namibia and Angola.

In the 1960s an archaeological site at Jebel Irhoud in Morocco was dated as about 40,000 years old but it was re-dated in the 2000s. It is now thought to be between 300,000 and 350,000 years old

Population Crash
Effective population is different than actual population size, as it measures genetic diversity in a population of species. Around 80,000 years ago, for some reason, the effective population size of humans dramatically decreased, essentially crashing, and it still hasn’t recovered, and scientists still do not know exactly why.

Life After Fire
Since we didn’t discover fire, that means that Homo sapiens have never actually lived without controlled fire in our lives—talk about creature comforts. While the Millennials are the first to be born into the digital age without knowing what life without a computer is, the first Homo sapiens had perhaps an even more incredible advantage. And don’t get them started on avocado toast
