What is famous in Akshardham ?

The temple has 10 gates. What is more interesting is that all gates face the 10 directions as per Vedic literature.

The creation and the making of this temple were moderated and supervised by an organization named BAPS (Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha). Around 3000 volunteer workers and 7000 established artisans helped this organization to build this beautiful temple. It was officially inaugurated on 6th November 2005. The structure was designed in such a way that this temple can last for at least 1000 years more.

Akshardham Temple comprises 200 sculptured stone figures of India's sages, monks, Acharyas and divine incarnations. It also consists of 234 ornately carved pillars, 9 ornate domes, Gajendra Pith and 20,000 statues of divine figures of India.

Narayan Sarovar is the main attraction of the temple. There are 108 faces of cows/gomukh laced along the lake,. It is believed that these 108 cow faces represent 108 Hindu Gods.

The temple covers a huge amount of ground. It is an architectural masterpiece that is huge in all its aspects. The temple covers a land mass of about 83,342 square feet. The major cum central monument is also grand in its length, breadth, and width. This 350 feet long, 315 feet wide, and 141 feet high monument is absolutely attractive.

Parikrama in Akshardham: The beautiful  Akshardham parikrama (circumambulatory path) consists of 1,152 pillars, 145 windows and 154 samvaran shikhars; amounting to a total of 53,956 stones. The 3000ft long pavement also has 1200 pillars and 155 pinnacles to adorn it.

The Parikrama around the Akshardham Temple is framed in the form of a pavement comprising of two storeys. The 3000 feet long parikrama has 1200 pillars and 155 pinnacles.

The external wall of the temple is intricately carved. The wall is decorated with 200 sculptured stone figures of holy figures of India.

The main building of the Akshardham Temple is surrounded by a lake called the Narayan Sarovar, which carries the water of as many as 151 sacred lakes and rivers from around the country. A series of 108 gaumukhs (faces of cows) have been made along the sarovar and these stand for the 108 Hindu Gods.

The Parikrama or the structure surrounding the monument is also stunning. This 3000 feet long Parikrama is a two-storied structure and it is built in the form of a pavement. This structure is made from red stones exclusively brought from Rajasthan. It has 1152 pillars and 155 windows. There are 108 gaumukh around this Parikrama. When you walk around this structure, you can hear the sound of flowing water.
