As you've probably noticed, we live in a world defined by three spatial dimensions and one dimension of time. In other words, it only takes three numbers to pinpoint your physical location at any given moment. On Earth, these coordinates break down to longitude, latitude and altitude representing the dimensions of length, width and height .

At this very moment, you're likely positioned at a particular longitude, latitude and altitude. Walk a little to your left, and you'll alter your longitude or latitude or both. Stand on a chair in the exact same spot

you'll alter your altitude. Here's where it gets hard: Can you move from your current location without altering your longitude, latitude or altitude? You can't, because there's not a fourth spatial dimension for us to move through.

Measurable extent or quantity (such as amplitude, brightness, hue, frequency, length, width, height, time, mass, volume, weight) that denotes the degree to, or range over, which something extends. In scientific terms, a space has as many dimensions as there are mutually perpendicular axes at each point within it.

Therefore a line has one dimension (length), a plane has two dimensions (length and width), and the space surrounding us has three dimensions (length, width, and height) to which Einstein's Theory of Relativity adds another dimension, time.

Dismayed at finding himself inserted in a dimension five hundred years earlier than expected, the time traveler had to finally admit that his flux capacitor was regrettably on the fritz again.

We enjoyed looking at the northern lights last night because it was so clear that it took the colors to a whole new dimension.

When trying to get an add on for electronic equipment you must check the dimension to make sure that it works with what you already have.

In simple words, a dimension can be defined as a frame of reference that we need to define a point completely, and uniquely. A point may also be referred to as an 'event' (nothing to do with the literal meaning of the word event).

Evert dimension table contains attributes which describe the details of the dimension. E.g., Product dimensions can contain Product ID, Product Category, etc.
