A parallel universe is a universe that is different from the observable universe. This may be due to time travel or other things.

The parallel universe notion, also known as the many worlds theory, proposes that every possible alternate timeline for the universe is real, all happening in an ever branching way. So while in one universe you may have said no to dessert, in another you said yes, leading to completely different series of events

It is a complex theory and has continued to be doubted and scrutinized ever since Everett proposed it in the 1950s. Many scientists believe that the multiverse theory is something that is not observable and therefore not provable. This leads many to believe that discussion of such a notion is pointless and even unscientific.

However earlier this year a group of scientists believe that they may have found a small bit of evidence to support this bizarre theory. A ‘Cold Spot’ in the universe was found 1.8 billion light years away, and as the name suggests it is a particularly cold spot in the universe.

In 1954, a young Princeton University doctoral candidate named Hugh Everett III came up with a radical idea: That there exist parallel universes, exactly like our ­universe. These universes are all related to ours; indeed, they branch off from ours, and our universe is branched off of others. Within these parallel universes, our wars have had different outcomes than the ones we know. Species that are extinct in our universe have evolved and adapted in others. In other universes, we humans may have become extinct.

This thought boggles the mind and yet, it is still comprehensible. Notions of parallel universes or dimensions that resemble our own have appeared in works of science fiction and have been used as explanations for metaphysics. But why would a young up-and-coming physicist possibly risk his future career by posing a theory about parallel universes?

In the 1980s, Russian physicists Alexander Vilenkin and Andrei Linde built on Alan Guth’s inflation theory to come up with a multiverse concept, where inflation creates bubble universes.

The mere fact of parallel universe which is proved, is that there exists no proof of parallel universe. But theoretically there should exist another universe. It may be same as oursite or not is different topic.

It’s an exciting notion. Thinking that there is another universe where you have been faced with all the same situations, but each choice you make is different, with every different decision leading to a different outcome.

Like a choose your own adventure novel where you actually have chosen every possible option. But while it may seem like something out of science fiction, the notion of parallel universes has perplexed and intrigued scientists ever since it was first proposed over 60 years ago by Hugh Everett III.

The idea of a parallel universe falls under a facet of the astronomical theory of multiverses. The theory states that shortly after the Big Bang our universe expanded at different rates and in different places which lead to the rise of many universes outside of our own.

The term "parallel universe" is more general, without implying a relationship, or lack of relationship, with our own universe. A universe where the very laws of nature are different – for example, one in which there are no Laws of Motion – would in general count as a parallel universe but not an alternative reality and a concept between both fantasy world and earth.

Many researchers believe that this spot is indeed just one large empty area in the universe. However some believe that the Cold Spot was a result from our universe colliding with another universe in its early days. With the impact releasing energy which would have created a Cold Spot in the universe.

Yet despite this slim strand of hope for those who believe that parallel universes exist, many aren’t phased by the difficulty to test for the presence of other universes.  Those who support the theory believe it has great merit and only hope that one day that science fiction will become fact.

From science fiction to science fact, there is a concept that suggests that there could be other universes besides our own, where all the choices you made in this life played out in alternate realities.

Around 13.7 billion years ago, simply speaking, everything we know of in the cosmos was an infinitesimal singularity. Then, according to the Big Bang theory, some unknown trigger caused it to expand and inflate in three-dimensional space.

As the immense energy of this initial expansion cooled, light began to shine through. Eventually, the small particles began to form into the larger pieces of matter we know today, such as galaxies, stars and planets.
