Some activists say that zoos are beneficial to research and advancements in the knowledge of science while others say that in interest zoos have on the conservation of wildlife is a cover-up for the large profit they make on visitors

Enter another unlikely animal trio: Baloo the bear, Shere Khan the tiger, and Leo the lion. The trio were rescued during a drug raid in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2001 when they were barely three months old.

In most cases the ethics of a zoo relies on the individual zoo and how it operates. Some zoos will be more ethical, and some will do things more for money than then animals.

. Today, they’re fully grown adults, with Baloo tipping the scales at 450 kilos (1,000 lbs) and Leo and Shere Khan each coming in at 159 kilos (350 lbs). The three animals all live in the same enclosure at the Noah’s Ark Animal Rescue Center in Locust Grove, Georgia, and are the best of friends. They not only eat and sleep together, but also hug, wrestle, frolic, and do all the things normally reserved for a box full of kittens.

Anti-zoo movements are organizations made up of animal rights activists who are against the keeping of animals in zoos. While zoos insist they are only helping the conservation process, anti-zoo organizations say otherwise.

Zoos still provide education to the public, as well as researchers who study exotic and rare animals.

Zoochosis is a portmanteau of zoo and psychosis. It was coined by the late Bill Travers of Born Free Foundation, which is an anti-zoo organization. It refers to abnormal, repetitive, and unnatural behaviors—the equivalent of madness in humans—exhibited by animals in captivity.

They insist that if zoos were really interested in conserving animals, they would conserve them in their natural habitats and not in artificial, stressful, and boring (for the animals) conditions which deprive them of physical and mental stimulation

It is caused by several factors, including the separation of an animal from its natural habitat, loss of life in social groups, idleness, use of drugs and medication (including birth control), caging, and human influence in general. Zoochosis symptoms have never been observed in animals in the wild.

They believe zoos are simply profit-driven businesses which play on the emotions of their visitors through such nefarious plots as displaying cute animal babies to drive up ticket sales.

Last week my daughter and I took my grandson to your zoo. At one of the exhibits we met Eco-Explorer Nick. He was so pleasant and very carefully explained about all the animals. He knew all the names and ages of every animal there. He told us all about the changes in the zoo to meet the strict requirements of the AZA. He is so proud of his work there.

One symptom is the repeated biting and sucking of cage bars, an act which leads to tooth damage and is often displayed by captive bears. The licking of cage walls, bars, or gates is another symptom; it’s known as “tongue playing” and displayed by giraffes and camels.

I want to thank you for a great visit with my two year old grandson. Your zoo was perfect for us. I live in Ohio and have taken other grandchildren to the Columbus Zoo which is a great zoo. Utah’s Hogle Zoo was as good an experience as the Columbus Zoo.

Other symptoms include walking back and forth along a well-defined route, vomiting, limb biting, regurgitation, excrement eating, and, in primates, hugging their knees while rocking back and forth. This last one is particularly shocking because it’s also a symptom of madness and distress in humans

this assignment I decided to visit the Houston Zoo. I decided to visit the Zoo as it has been years since I have been to the zoo. My last visit was probably when I was in kindergarten, which I don’t really remember what I saw at the zoo other than the animals.

I went before spring break to visit the zoo, as my grandmother came to Houston for the first time, and my family and I wanted to take her to different places around the Houston area.

We are zoo members and signed our little one up for a Junior Zookeeper class this past Saturday. He had a wonderful time and enjoyed every bit of the class, especially time in the small animal house drawing on the glass (he was happy to point it out to everyone that walked by several hours later when we were still at the zoo.)

Elephants are my favorite part of visiting the zoo. As a very little girl (and I am almost 67) going to the zoo with my mother, I first fell in love with Princess Alice. She was magnificent and I immediately loved her. My family lived close enough to the zoo that, as grade schoolers, we often walked to Hogle Zoo with our neighborhood friends.

What an adventure wandering through Bonneville Golf Course and approaching our ZOO! We felt like explorers! I can’t wait for Feast with the Beast next week. What a great day to celebrate Thanksgiving morning and my birthday two days later.
