This can mean very high prices for highly sought after items like collectibles, discontinued items, vintage items, unusual items, or anything in short supply.

This has also made eBay the go to place for collectors, who can find items that would be impossible to find locally, and for sellers, who can buy low and sell high.

Anyone can open an account on eBay for free, and you can opt to sell as well as buy products. When you have a seller account on eBay there are fees associated with the account such as a listing fee.

The company was started by Pierre Omidyar in 1995. As well as having a degree in Computer Science, Omidyar had several jobs working with software and computer and much experience in selling on the Internet. He decided to set up a page on his website to let people sell things to whoever paid the most. The idea was immediately sucessful and Omidyar was soon making lots of money. As a result, he gave up his job and lauched eBay.

Even if you’ve never used it yourself, you’ve probably heard others talk about it, or seen it on television shows, in movies and in the news.

There aren’t many other websites that can rival eBay and Omidyar is enormously rich. However, he and his wife have given away much millions of dollars to the charity

eBay auctions accept bids only for a specific amount of time. In a traditional non-eBay auction, bidders frantically place competing bids.

To work on eBay, you need an eBay account and plenty of desirable items to sell. Create an eBay account. To do this, go through the link at the top of eBay's home page that is labeled Register. Complete the registration page with your name, contact information and the name that you choose for your eBay account.

eBay is an electronic storefront and online auction market where consumers can shop for virtually anything they need. eBay advertises itself as "The Online Marketplace," and it provides a venue not only for online shoppers to interact but also for online merchants to market and trade their goods. eBay is one of the most heavily trafficked online stores.

If you haven't done so already, contact the seller through the listing in My eBay > Purchase history, explain the situation, and see if the seller is willing to cancel the transaction. If the seller doesn't agree to cancel the transaction and you don't pay for the item, an unpaid item may be recorded on your account.

eBay gets a cut when your auction sells. After your auction or fixed-price listing ends, eBay charges the Final Value fee to your account in a matter of minutes. Final Value fees on auctions are pretty easy to figure out. If your item sells, you pay eBay 9% of the selling price to a maximum of $50.00.

Firstly and most easily: pay on collection only. Be wary of any seller who insists on advance payment. Don't get lured in by a good deal, or insistences that you must deal through eBay. Use PayPal with a credit card, so you're entitled to a degree of protection over your transactions if it does go south

buying safely is all about how you pay. The vast majority of sellers on eBay accept PayPal or credit cards. If you pay with your credit card, you're completely protected against fraud (no item, or item substantially different than described). ... Finally, on payments, never ever pay with cash.
